American Experience

Television's most-watched history series American Experience joins with CET's oral histories project Capturing the Voices, and CET's Learning Services Department, to provide you with a unique perspective on history.

On air and online, American Experience brings to life the incredible characters and epic stories that have shaped America's past and present. In Greater Cincinnati, individuals in our community tell their stories and give insight into their thoughts, feelings and significant life events and moments. On this website, CET blends these amazing resources to bring you a unique perspective on history. And provides assistance for educators in taking these stories into the classroom.

The American Experience programs featured in this project are:

American Experience: The 1930s

The American Experience series ''The 1930s'' examines the political and cultural life of America beginning with the stock market crash of 1929. Other programs in the series include the story of the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the construction of Hoover Dam, the impact of the catastrophic drought that transformed the plains into a Dust Bowl, and an unlikely hero that gave downtrodden Americans hope: Seabiscuit.

Watch these programs on CET or online on the American Experience website, and on CETconnect explore the lives of individuals in our community who describe their lives and work in that tumultuous decade.

Also on these pages, educators will find lessons and resources for use in the classroom.
