Jarod's Law

In 2003, six-year-old Jarod Bennett's life came to a sudden and tragic end when a school cafeteria table fell on him. Determined to make schools a safe place for students, the Ohio General Assembly passed Substitute House Bill 203, more commonly known as ''Jarod's Law,'' to assist school administrators and teachers in creating a safe and healthy learning environment for all students and staff. The law requires local health department sanitarians to conduct annual inspections of school buildings and grounds to identify safety and health hazards. School personnel are then charged with addressing those hazards to ensure a safe school environment. In collaboration with Cincinnati Public Schools, CET taped a professional development opportunity related to Jarod's Law for educators. The training was segmented into four videos that are now available for on-demand viewing. For more information about the law, visit the website.
