It's Not Just About Being Good...a lecture by Claire Gaudiani

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation presents: "It's not just about being good. It's not just about being nice. It's the American Way."

What is "it"? Philanthropy. But don't just take our word for it, listen to what best-selling author Claire Gaudiani has to say: "Giving is a major contributing factor in our economic, social and political achievement as a nation."

"Generosity is not a luxury in this country. It is a cultural norm, a defining characteristic of our successful economy and our reasonably successful society."

"Before there was a Declaration of Independence, there was a declaration of interdependence."

Dr. Gaudiani is the author of The Greater Good; How Philanthropy Drives the Economy and Can Save Capitalism in which she explores the generosity demonstrated by individual Americans. Our country has a great tradition of people helping each other get an education, develop good ideas, and build our communities. We do this for the greater good of everyone, not just for ourselves. More information about the book can be found at Dr. Gaudiani's website.

She is currently a Professor at The George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising at New York University, teaching courses on "America's Philanthropic History and Its Lessons for Today's Fundraisers" and "The Role of Women in Philanthropy."
