Cincinnati Opera Artistic Director Evans Mirageas engages legendary conductor Sir Roger Norrington in a rare and stimulating conversation about famous recordings that provided music lovers a new-found appreciation for Mozart, as well as an introduction to Maestro Norrington's interpretation of Cincinnati Opera's 2009 production of
The Marriage of Figaro.
Knighted in 1997, Sir Roger Norrington began his musical career as a tenor and choral conductor, leading numerous concerts and recording works from 17th and 19th-century choral repertoire with the Schütz Choir for the Argo record label. His career has spanned the decades with thoughtful interpretations of 19th-century symphonic literature and opera. Norrington's research into original scores and into the size, seating, and playing style of the orchestras of the 19th and early 20th centuries has had a remarkable influence on the way music of this period is both perceived and performed today. Sir Roger made his English National Opera debut in 1973 with Mozart's
The Marriage of Figaro
, and will make his Cincinnati Opera debut with the same work this summer.
Recorded 1/29/2009 at Music Hall Corbett Tower
Length: 50 minutes
