WILLIAM BECKHAM
by Dale Unroe
I’ve attached a photo and the only war photo memory of my Great Uncle, William Beckham, lost somewhere over the China Sea during WWII. In the picture his right shoulder is next to the propeller as he stands in front of the aircraft.
Being from Macon, Georgia, he lived close to the Lockheed Martin facilities and was asked to volunteer and volunteered for a second tour of duty serving on some new version of one of their bombers. He felt very strongly with disgust and deep anger towards how the Japanese tyranny was unfolding so volunteering was not a hard decision. During combat he was lost somewhere over the China Sea and is still listed among the missing from the war. His sister, my grandmother, was very close to him and so this loss was of great pain to her.
