For two weeks every March, we turn to our community and ask for support. We have other fundraisers and drives throughout the year, but March is the biggie for us and the money raised helps keep your public television station on-the-air and enables us to provide quality educational programming for children, local arts programming and so much more.
So this year, as we ask for your support once again, CET and ThinkTV thought it would be a good time to remind the community that PBS is #1 in public trust, according to ORC International’s annual survey. Here’s some other information from the report:
- Of the people surveyed, 42 percent say they trust PBS “A Great Deal.” Courts of Law came in second with 25 percent and Commercial TV came in at 16 percent.
- Close to 20 percent of the people surveyed agreed that PBS provides excellent value for tax dollars. The only service rated higher was military defense.
- When asked if the money given to PBS stations is well spent, 77 percent said yes.
- More than half of the people surveyed said PBS is the most important type of television available. Here’s the breakdown: 55 percent of people said PBS, 30 percent said commercial broadcast TV, and 26 percent said cable TV.
In addition to the trust element, PBS and PBS Kids also are regularly ranked at the #1 educational media brand and a recent new study of parents of young children confirmed that PBS Kids is the most trusted and relied upon brand for school readiness.
