The holidays are the perfect time to get your family to help with the cooking. The kids are home from school, you have to juggle five potlucks, there are a zillion cookies to make…

If you have little soon-to-be chefs at home, take a look at the PBS Kitchen Explorers webpage. It is packed with wonderful recipes, including cheesy stuffed bread, chocolate and caramel pretzel turtles, Bunuelos with honey and much more that are easy to make with your kids – there’s even a guide to baking gluten free cutout cookies with icing.

If your kids aren’t entirely into helping in the kitchen, then take a break from the holiday craziness and enjoy some PBS Kids programs with them. ThinkTV and CET’s broadcasts are packed with fun, educational programming all day to help little ones learn while having a good time. For our viewers up North, ThinkTV14 Learn features those programs all day long. PBS Kids also has a huge variety of games and activities for young learners available on computers, tablets and smart phones.

Visit our station websites and check out the Kids and Family pages for links to these activities and more at www.thinktv.org/kidsandfamily or www.CETconnect.org/kidsandfamily.  The direct link to Kitchen Explorers is http://www.pbs.org/parents/kitchenexplorers/.

Do you have a favorite activity you do with the kids at the holidays? Any suggestions for fellow parents looking to get their kids involved in the traditions? Tell us in the comments!

A traditional sight at Christmas time is seeing those shivering souls ringing bells in front of red kettles asking you to support The Salvation Army. Have you ever wondered how your donations are used to provide assistance for your friends, family and neighbors in need?

Some of their services include: Emergency Disaster Services; Christmas assistance programs; Family, Youth and Senior Services; Housing Programs; Anti-Human Trafficking; Adult Rehabilitation Center for those overcoming drug or alcohol addictions; their Thrift Stores and much, much more.

Focus airs at 7:30pm Friday, Dec. 14, on ThinkTV14 and at 12:30pm Sunday, Dec. 16, on CET.

Skunks are mysterious creatures. We see them all the time, just like raccoons and possums, but that doesn’t mean we know much about them. Of course it could be because getting too close to them often means taking a bath in tomato juice…

Despite the risks to their sense of smell, a group of intrepid researchers and cameramen tracked skunks day and night across California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio and even Martha’s Vineyard, to uncover how they hunt, forage, mate and raise their amazingly cute babies – all the things they are doing when not spraying the local dog.

The footage and information they gathered will be presented in Nature: Is That Skunk at 8pm on both ThinkTV16 and CET.

A couple years ago, two self-taught animal behaviorists – Cody and Arnold Hildebrand of Wild Brother Behavioral Research – met with Sherry Sargeant to talk about their work with skunks for an exclusive CET Connect online video.  They even brought along two favorite skunks, Kelsey and Kendall, for the show! Check out these little cuties here: http://www.cetconnect.org/video/skunk.
