Vietnam Stories, Wall of Faces and the 10-Day Documentary

Posted by Kellie May on

September is all about Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s The Vietnam War. At ThinkTV and CET, we are doing more than airing the 10-day documentary, we are also helping to collect stories from veterans and people who experienced the Vietnam War abroad and at home and we’re promoting the Wall of Faces project. Here’s a little about each of our efforts:

Share Your Story

Visceral and immersive, The Vietnam War series explores the human dimensions of the war through revelatory testimony of nearly 80 witnesses from all sides – Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as combatants and civilians from North and South Vietnam.

Do you have a personal story about the impact of the Vietnam War on your life or the life of someone you know? Share your story with us at www.CETconnect.org/VietnamWar or through social media by tagging us @CETconnect or @thinktv and using #VietnamWarPBS. Stories will be available online, pending approval from PBS. Submissions may be in writing, photographs, audio and/or video. You can also explore stories from across the country at http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/vietnam-stories/#stories.

Wall of Faces

ThinkTV has joined in an effort to ensure every Ohioan listed on The Vietnam Memorial Wall has a photo. The images will become part of the “Wall of Faces.” Help us put a face to these names and honor those who lost their lives by joining the effort to collect and preserve photographs of every service member whose name appears on The Wall.  Get the details and see how you can help at http://www.thinktv.org/veterans/stories-of-service/wall-faces-project/.

The Documentary

Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s ten-part, 18-hour documentary series tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive, and controversial events in American history as it has never before been told on film.

Ten years in the making, The Vietnam War includes rarely seen and digitally re-mastered archival footage from sources around the globe, photographs taken by some of the most celebrated photojournalists of the 20th Century, historic television broadcasts, evocative home movies, and secret audio recordings from inside the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations. The Vietnam War also features more than 100 iconic musical recordings from greatest artists of the era and haunting original music from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as well as the Silk Road Ensemble featuring Yo-Yo Ma.

We’ll be airing the first five parts of The Vietnam War Sunday, September 17, through Thursday, September 21, at 8pm each night on CET and ThinkTV16. The last five parts will air Sunday, September 24, through Thursday, September 28, also at 8pm each night on CET and ThinkTV16. Following the initial broadcast, we’ll encore the series one episode at a time on Tuesdays at 8pm on CET and ThinkTV16.  Learn more at www.thinktv.org/VietnamWar or www.CETconnect.org/VietnamWar
