I was an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class in charge of the automatic dial telephones. We had 999 phones on the ship. The U.S.S. Hornet was an Essex Class aircraft carrier, the largest carrier in WWII with a complement of 2,400 men assigned to the ship. The ship had a top speed of 35mph.
