CET Digital Television Guide
Tuners
... Oh, you want to see some TV programs...
All new DTV sets will come with Digital tuners built in. So if you connect it to antenna you should get all the local stations. In many cases, over-the-air reception may require a rooftop or attic mounted antenna
Another option is to subscribe to a cable or satellite company that offers HDTV set top boxes. Time Warner and Insight in the Cincinnati area offer these options.
You do not need a digital over-the-air tuner or DTV converter if you are a cable or satellite service subscriber. The cable of satellite set top box plugs directly into the component inputs of your set. This relieves you of having to install an antenna.
If you want to use your old analog TV after February 17, 2009, and you will not be connected to cable or subscribe to a satellite service you will need to purchase a DTV converter box for each analog TV. These can be purchased at major electronic stores and other retail outlets like Walmart®.
The federal government is offering two $40 coupons to each US household to offset the cost of the DTV converters. Most converters are selling for about $60. With the coupon you will pay about $20.
Coupons can be requested by phone 888-388-2009 on the web at www.dtv2009.gov.
