DTV Consumer Education Quarterly Activity Report

As mandated by the Federal Communications Commission, televisions broadcasters must certify to activities they undertake in order to educate consumers about the "digital transition" -- the switch from analog to digital television broadcast transmission. The form we provide the FCC with that information is also required to be posted on our website, CETconnect.

• FCC Form 388 for period ending March 31, 2008

The Future of Television Is Digital!
CET has taken a quantum leap in service to the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky area with our conversion from analog to digital technology. Along with our original analog Channel 48, we are now broadcasting a digital signal on Channel 34, and with that signal comes much more than pretty pictures.

HDTV
When people hear "digital television," they think of the High Definition Television, with its widescreen, eye-popping pictures and crystal clear sound, but CET Digital service includes much more:

Multicasting
The new digital channel allows CET to transmit multiple programs and services. For example, your child may be able to watch Arthur in the family room while you enjoy Frontline in the living room. Still another member of your household could be taking a college course—all through the same channel.

Enhanced TV
Since digital broadcasting converts images and sound to computer-friendly bits and bytes, it can be used to distribute data at high speed. We are developing services for schools that will provide additional information in the form of text, photos and video while students and teachers are watching a program.

Imagine!
With your support, CET has become a leader in providing education through video and the Internet. Our digital conversion significantly expands capability:

  • CET Create is the best of PBS education and "how to" programs and is available 24/7.
  • We are exploring opportunties to expand our telecourse delivery, providing courses from the University of Cincinnati or Cincinnati State complete with readings and notes distributed electronically.
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers and business executives are being developed.

Ohio's First Digital Public Television Station
On December 4, 2002, CET, the country's first licensed public television station launched its digital signal, making it the first public television station in the state to begin broadcasting in digital.

First Broadcast Station in Cincinnati to Provide 24/7 HD Service
CET, Greater Cincinnati’s public television station, expanded its high definition service (HD) to 24/7 as of October 1st, 2005, becoming the first local broadcast station to provide such an extensive service.
