John Hancock, Co-founder and Director of CERHAS, The Center for Electronic Reconstruction of Historical Archaeological Sites explains the process used to recreate historic sites that no longer exist.

University of Cincinnati Architecture

Photographer Robert Flischel and University of Cincinnati Archivist talk with Jonathan Silver about their newly published book The University of Cincinnati/Architectural Transformation: Tradition and Innovation. The book chronicles UC's classical and art deco gems as well as its internationally acclaimed modern architecture through beautiful photographs and the interesting stories behind the buildings. This three-year project celebrates the heritage of Cincinnati architecture with Samuel Hannaford and the creativity of Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry and Michael Graves. The UC Parent's Association and the Alumni Association are cosponsoring sales of the book, with proceeds earmarked to support the UC General Scholarship Fund.

BBTB-Gina Ruffin Moore

Author Gina Ruffin Moore shares photos and the history of African Americans from her book, Cincinnati, part of Arcadia Publishing's Black America Series. Donald and Marian Spencer join Gina to share their personal memories and moderate the panel in this presentation at the 2007 Books By the Banks festival.

Emi and the Rhino Scientist

Learn how the Cincinnati Zoo successfully bred a Sumatran Rhino as author Mary Kay Carson and photographer Tom Uhlman discuss the making of their latest book, Emi and Rhino Scientist. This panel discussion from the 2007 Books By the Banks Festival was moderated, by Dr. Monica Stoops, a rhino scientist. Dr. Stoops shares information on the types of rhinos.

What is your life like when you are a busy author? What lessons have they learned that they can share with aspiring writers? Where do they get ideas for characters? How did they get started? The authors also share information about the collaborations they do as fund raisers for causes dear to them.

Books By The Banks is an annual book festival organized by CET, The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Cincinnati Magazine, The Mercantile Libary, University of Cincinnati Libraries, and Borders.
