River Valley Rhythms
10:30pm Friday, April 15, on CET; 8pm Monday, May 2, on CET Arts
River Valley Rhythms is a new music and performance-centered initiative aimed at bringing great local music and music history to audiences in southwest Ohio. The first episode of River Valley Rhythms features The Blue Wisp Big Band, led by legendary jazz drummer John Von Ohlen, with guest soloist Terell Stafford on trumpet.
The Blue Wisp Big Band has been the premiere big band in the Cincinnati region for more than 35 years. Over the course of that time, the band has been steadfast in its commitment to its big hard-bop sound making it a key part of Cincinnati’s jazz history. The one-hour program will feature pieces from the group’s Xavier Jazz Series concert as well as interviews with band members.
River Valley Rhythms will roll out with three jazz concert specials in 2016, including The Blue Wisp Big Band, Brian Newman Quintet and the Nati’ 6. The first episode premieres at 10:30pm Friday, April 15, on CET and encores Monday, May 2, at 8pm on CET Arts.
