Gifts of Stock

A special message for those of you who have had a good run in the stock market, from PBS:

As it may have already occurred to you, when you’re ready to sell, you may face significant capital gains taxes. But you can take some of the sting out of that situation and do an awful lot of good as well, by taking stock and giving it to The Greater Cincinnati Television Educational Foundation (CET). If you’ve had the stock for any time more than a year, your gift lets you win three times:

• You can bypass the capital gains taxes.
• Uncle Sam lets you deduct the full market value of the stock.
• CET gets a higher gift at lesser cost to you.

Consult your tax advisor and consider this winning triple play. To help you with a gift of stock to CET, please use the following instructions:

Step 1: INITIATE TRANSFER

There are two common methods of giving securities to CET. The first is electronic transfer through which your broker can transfer shares using CET's DTC number. The other is physically mailing the paper certificate to CET. Either method is acceptable, but it is necessary for you to contact your broker to initiate the transfer.

Step 2: NOTIFICATION OF DONOR INTENT

Regardless of the method chosen to deliver a gift of stock, the donor or the transferring broker must provide the following information for acknowledgement and audit purposes:

• Donor name and complete address
• Name and number of securities transferred
• Name of brokerage house shares will be transferred from
• Date of transfer

Step 3: METHOD OF DELIVERY (choose one)
