FOCUS - Ideas that Work: A Focus on Early Learning

According to national assessment data, two out of every three U.S. fourth graders are not proficient readers. The picture is even worse for those living in poverty; more than four out of every five low-income students are not reading on grade level. Students who have not mastered reading by the fourth grade are more likely to become stuck in a cycle of academic failure, drop out of school, and struggle throughout their lives.


To address this growing concern, more than seventy regional leaders in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky have joined forces to launch the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.


On this edition of Focus, Kathy Lehr takes a closer look at the Campaign for Grade Level Reading to learn how it plans to improve early learning in our community.
