I Am An American Too

Zakia Hyder’s new children’s book, released in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, puts a human face on the suspicion cast on American Muslims in the wake of the anger and fear that the attacks produced. Written for grade school age children, I Am An American, Too is the story of Ahmad, a young boy who works his way through the fear and confusion to focus on the good that surrounds him and his family. Ahmad's friends and neighbors bridge cultural differences by sharing their joys and sorrows, reassuring Ahmad and others that, although his family belongs to a specific ethnic group, he is as American as any other young boy.
