Voices of Giving: John D. and Ruth Erhardt
The Wellness Community first opened its doors to cancer patients and their loved ones in 1990. Then and now, the heart of its programming is weekly support groups. There is a unique level of caring and safe, specialized guidance and support available at no cost to patients or their families.
Ruth Erhardt was one of the first cancer patients to participate in the Wellness Community support groups. Ruth attended weekly support groups for seven years through periods of treatment and remission. This life-affirming activity proved to be an essential part of her journey to recovery.
Today, Ruth and John continue their involvement with the Wellness Community as active members of the Lynn Stern Planned Giving Society – sharing their story and their reasons for making an estate gift in print, in person with the Board of Trustees and with other groups in the community.
In 2009, TWC of Greater Cincinnati, other TWC affiliates and Gilda's Club Worldwide merged to form Cancer Support Community. This merger will continue to strengthen the impact of a shared mission nationally and internationally.
John and Ruth's gift through trust will help ensure the financial future of an evolving organization and ensure that the key services for cancer patients and their families continue to be available at no cost, when they are needed most, for generations to come.
The Wellness Community is eternally grateful to John and Ruth Erhardt for their 20 years of support, their inspirational example and their enduring commitment.
