Rick
Sowash loves Ohio, he loves history and he loves a good story!
Rick Sowash has been a full-time
Visiting Author for over ten years. Throughout the year, he travels throughout
the state and visits schools to make his presentation based on his book, Heroes
of Ohio - 23 True Tales of Courage and Character. In each engagement Rick
joins with students to make history come alive for them.
His book is described as inspiring
and fun-to-read book. In Heroes of Ohio, Sowash profiles 23 individuals
- all Ohioans - who are the leaders, courageous, inventive, creative. His cast
of characters ranges from the famous (Harriett Beecher Stowe, the Wright Brothers,
Tecumseh, Henry Heimlich) to the not-so-famous, such as Jacob Parrott and John
Parker.
In the schools he visits, Rick Sowash works with students who dress as each of the characters in his book. Then, because these students have studied the character they represent, Rick talks with them about who they were, what they did and why.
His next book is titled Critters, Flitters and Spitters - 24 Amazing Ohio Animal
Tales. In the book, Rick features animals that help people, animals that are
extinct, those of farm and field and some that aren't expected in Ohio. His first
book was Ripsnorting Whoppers! Humor from America's Heartland.
In addition to being a storyteller, historian and actor, Rick has a remarkably balanced and creative life. He's an accomplished classical music composer and his compositions have been published, played, recorded and even broadcast over radios around the world. He's also been a playwright, a church musician, an innkeeper, a theatre director and a "politician," serving as County Commissioner in Richland County, Ohio, where he was born.
Rick Sowash lives with his family (wife, son and daughter) in Cincinnati, Ohio.
