What does a thriving city look like through the imaginations of Black visionaries and changemakers? Join host Naimah Bilal for Urban Consulate Presents: Black Future City, a candid conversation about dreams, ideas and strategies for the future of Cincinnati.

In this televised special premiering Thursday, February 25, 8pm CET, Bilal explores two dimensions of community vitality – Soul and Systems – with special guests Eileen Cooper Reed, Dr. Angelica Hardee, Damian Hoskins, Luna Malbroux, Toilynn O’Neal Turner and Andrew Tudor. The show features Cincinnati musical talent and ends with a call to creative reflection and collaborative action.

Black Future City is not just a show, but an ongoing citywide conversation scored for many voices. In this spirit, Urban Consulate & CET invite viewers to a virtual watch party with interactive dialogue immediately following the broadcast. Learn more.

Urban Consulate is a network of parlors for urban exchange. Since 2016, the Consulate has hosted hundreds of conversations in Detroit, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Austin, Cincinnati and Chicagoland to bring people together and share ideas for better cities. CET is looking forward to this partnership with Urban Consulate Cincinnati to help bring more people to the table and to expand the conversation.

See MoreNaimah Bilal is co-host of Urban Consulate in Cincinnati, where she convenes dialogues about civic life through the lens of racial equity, amplifying voices and ideas to promote a culture of learning and exchange. As Chief Development Officer of the Children’s Literacy Initiative, she provides leadership, strategic vision, and direction to actuate and expand philanthropic support in service of Black and Latinx students. Bilal carries a unique blend of executive fundraising, performance, arts administration, and music pedagogy expertise. Combining an orchestral performance career with ten years of artistic planning experience, she has worked with the University of Cincinnati Foundation, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Waldorf School, and was a Management Fellow with the League of American Orchestras. She is the founder and host of “Bawse With a Cause,” the first podcast series to feature the stories, big ideas, and industry insights of Black and Brown leaders doing transformative work in the wider nonprofit space. She received her B.A. from Indiana University and M.A. from Case Western Reserve University/CIM. She is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in Economics from the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business.

See MoreAndrew Tudor, CFP is Chief Wealth Coach at Alchemist Wealth, an independent wealth management firm started by two brothers to help Black individuals and families transform their relationship with money. Having spent their entire adult lives in the financial industry, they witnessed first-hand the lack of adequate opportunities and knowledge to build wealth, and decided to attack the racial wealth gap in a unique way. Andrew also started and leads an investment group of 25 black men called I-Rise. To date they have been investors in new residential housing in downtown Cincinnati and surrounding areas. After earning his BA in Business Management at Wittenberg University, Tudor spent six years in consumer and business banking and transitioned to financial planning in 2016. In 2020 after finishing his Certified Financial Planner certification, he co-founded Alchemist Wealth to serve clients on his own terms. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Alumni Network Board. When not coaching clients, he loves traveling, Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz music, and exploring the outdoors.

See MoreDr. Angelica Hardee is dedicated to addressing health-related social needs in the community. Her goal is making her community the most equitable and healthy region in the United States. She currently serves as Vice President of Health Strategy at the American Heart Association where she is dedicated to Greater Cincinnati/NKY’s community health initiatives. In this role she provides leadership focused addressing top health priorities of the region. She engages with community organizations and neighborhoods coalitions to identify their health & wellness priorities. In addition, she serves as President of Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Southwestern Ohio and many other non-profit boards in the community. Dr. Hardee is a native of Cleveland, OH and three-time alumna of the University of Cincinnati where she received her bachelors, masters and doctorate focused in public health, health policy and global health systems.

See MoreDamian Hoskins is the General Manager of Elementz, a Hip Hop cultural art center in Cincinnati that is an urban oasis of hope and a catalyst of change for the city’s youth. Through the preservation, protection and promotion of Hip Hop as art, culture and a global creative force, Elementz fosters talent, ignites potential and inspires possibilities. Previously, Hoskins was Vice President of Arts Impact at ArtsWave, the leading fundraiser and promoter of the arts in Greater Cincinnati, and director of community programming for Mercy Health, with a focus on measuring and investing in underserved communities. Prior to that, Hoskins worked for Hamilton County’s Head Start program, including the launch of the Preschool Promise initiative. Before that, he was at KnowledgeWorks/StrivePartnership, where he held the role of director of Collaborative Action. Hoskins was an executive on loan for Urban League of Southwest Ohio working to redesign the Urban League Institute, a leadership development program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from Central State University and a master’s degree from the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

See MoreLuna Malbroux, named one of KQED’s Women to Watch, is a comic, writer, and creator of the award winning play, “How to Be A White Man.” Winner of the Comedy Hackday Grand Prize at SF Sketchfest, Luna has made international headlines as the creator of EquiTable, an app that satirically solves the wage gap by creating ‘reparations, one meal at a time.’ A regular contributor to national publications, Luna has been featured on Fusion TV, AJ+ and Refinery 29. Tastefully crude, Luna is also the host and creator of the live and recording ongoing comedy talk-show, Live Sex. Originally from Louisiana, Luna has dazzled audiences all across the United States with her Southern charm mixed with her bold humor a feature at festivals and clubs alike.

Toilynn O’Neal Turner

See MoreToilynn O’Neal Turner is a talented artist, entrepreneur and cultural activist who has devoted her life to creating pathways for the next generation of artists in Cincinnati. She currently serves as the Director of Diversity at her Alma mater, Saint. Ursula Academy is located in East Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio where she promotes the school’s mission of inclusion and support for cultural endeavors of the city. She is the founder and director of New American Art Gallery II and the Robert O’Neal Multicultural Art Center which both support and provide venues for regional art and artists. From 2004-2009, Turner acted as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Art For Life initiative at the Cincinnati Art Museum where she introduced over 15,000 people to the diversity of the Museum’s world class collections and programming. She also served as Visual Arts Director and Museum Coordinator for the Arts Consortium of Cincinnati for over 11 years, implementing changing exhibits at the Art Consortium’s African American Museum site. She proudly serves on numerous civic and cultural boards and committees.She is the interim director for Queen City Foundation. In 2019, Turner was the recipient of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s MAC Award for Diversity and Leadership in the Arts.

Eileen Cooper Reed

See MoreEileen Cooper Reed is a change maker and advocate who resides in Cincinnati. Her entire adult life has been dedicated to the improvement of the human condition, particularly for children and families of color. Before becoming a lawyer, Eileen was trained in community development and worked in both rural and urban settings. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, she did a stint at the US Court of Appeals before settling in as a Juvenile Court Referee. In 1993, Eileen opened the Cincinnati office of the Children’s Defense Fund. Her passion and dedication for improving the lives of our most vulnerable children and their families was exceptional and eventually she assumed the helm of the Ohio office of CDF. Eileen’s devotion to service led to her election to the City of Cincinnati Board of Education where she served two four-year terms and was chosen President by her colleagues four of those years. Addressing the issues of equity in education and in other sectors throughout the community became a driving force. While on the Board of Education, Eileen was elected to the Executive Committee of the Council for Great City Schools, the preeminent organization committed to urban education. At CCGCS, she chaired the National Advisory Committee on Black Males. She has served on numerous boards including two foundation Boards. She is active in the Greater Cincinnati community and was recent chair of the Board of the Ohio Justice and Policy Center. She is a member of the Xavier University President’s Advisory Council and School Board School. Reed is also a member of the All-in Cincinnati Core Team addressing racial equity in Hamilton County Reed formed the Intersections Group to advance conversations that matter: acknowledging and examining the intersections of equity in community.
