Drama Returns to MASTERPIECE on January 7

As we kick off the New Year, we’re also kicking off new episodes from three different MASTERPIECE drama series on January 7. Miss Scarlet and the Duke and All Creatures Great & Small both return for a fourth season, and Funny Woman premieres as a new series, starring Gemma Arterton.

Reunite with some of your favorite characters and prepare to meet new faces in each series. Headstrong Eliza Scarlet continues her detective work in Miss Scarlet and the Duke, iconic veterinarian James Herriot returns with the Skeldale crew and a few new characters in All Creatures Great and Small, and Barabra Parker makes her debut as she takes on the world of comedy in Funny Woman.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke: Season 4
Sundays, January 7 through February 11, at 8pm on CET

The story of how it all began. It’s twelve years earlier and Eliza and The Duke meet for the very first time.

Episode 4: The Diamond Feather

Things are going well for Eliza until a familiar face shows up to question her role at Nash & Sons. Meanwhile, The Duke receives an offer that brings their relationship to a crisis point.

Episode 5: The Calling
Sunday, February 4, at 8pm CET

Eliza and Nash are still struggling to work together when an explosive case takes them into a cutthroat industry where people will kill to keep their secrets.

Episode 6: The Fugitive
Sunday, February 11, 8pm CET

Eliza is on the trail of a fugitive who is charged with murder. She must find him before the police do or risk losing everything.

All Creatures Great and Small: Season 4
Sundays, January 7 through February 18, at 9pm on CET

It’s Spring 1940 and with Europe at war, the community in Darrowby are pulling together more than ever before. With Tristan away serving, Siegfried and James bring in some extra hands to help around the practice: highly efficient bookkeeper Miss Harbottle, and student vet Richard Carmody. Happily married Helen and James begin to think about their future despite the looming possibility that James could be called up to serve. Episode 1: Broodiness

Skeldale House is busier than ever while Tristan is away serving. James and Helen dream about the future, hoping that James will not be called up to serve. When Mrs. Hall takes a leap of faith, Siegfried offers his support.

Episode 2: Carpe Diem

Siegfried has the bright idea of bringing in an experienced bookkeeper, Miss Harbottle, to bring method to their madness. James and Helen take inspiration from Siegfried’s ‘Carpe Diem’ approach and make a long-awaited decision.

Episode 3: Right Hand Man

Busy and exhausted, James and Helen cannot get any time together. James thinks he found a solution when he hires a new trainee vet, Richard Carmody, but things do not quite work out as he expects.

Episode 4: By The Book

Carmody is challenged with learning how to be a vet. The new farmers have a worrying illness amongst their herd and James wants to help them. Helen rallies the community to help the newcomers whilst she waits for some personal news.

Episode 5: Papers

With the War feeling closer to home, James desperately wants things in order and Carmody trained up to support Siegfried. Carmody and Mrs. Pumphrey clash because he can’t see her dogs the way she does. A dinner with Gerald leaves Mrs. Hall with a dilemma but watching James and Helen brace for their future gives her a new perspective.

Episode 6: The Home Front
Sunday, February 11, at 9pm on CET

When Richard Alderson needs some help, Helen returns to Heston Grange. Buried family secrets threaten to tear their relationship apart as Richard refuses to let her muck in on the farm. Gerald’s beloved dog, Rock, needs veterinary help, but he is too worried about the operation. Mrs. Hall pushes him to do the right thing.

Episode 7: On a Wing and a Prayer
Sunday, February 18, at 9pm on CET

James tries to get home for Christmas and Skeldale House prepares for a new arrival.

Funny Woman
