Family-Friendly Rock Painting

- Rocks With a Smooth Surface (Can be store-bought or found outside)
- Colors of Acrylic Paint (or if you want more detailed designs you can get paint pens!)
- Paintbrushes of Different Sizes
- Paper Plates
- Bowl Of Water
- Paper Towel
- Optional: Clear-Coat Sealant
The How-To
Step One: Put the rocks you plan to paint on a paper plate.
Step Two: On a separate paper plate, mix the paint to colors of your liking.
Step Three: Paint the rock the base color you want and let it dry for 10 minutes before recoating it and letting it dry again. Make sure you can’t see the rock’s original color (repeat for all of the rocks). Make sure to wash your brushes between colors!
Step Four: After the base layer is completely dry you can then add whatever detailing to the rocks you like using various colors! (Tip: After adding the color of the design you wish to make, wait until that dries before adding on a different color.)
Step Five: Let the rocks dry to where they are no longer wet with paint and then put them wherever you like as fun home decor!
Step Six: If you want to make sure your painted rocks last, you’ll want to coat them. This blog has some great tips on that process: https://rockpainting101.com/how-to-seal-painted-rocks/.
